Breaking: Council passes resolution in opposition to HB5977 – Public Comments
On Tuesday, December 2, 2014 State Representative Earl Poleski (R) from JACKSON COUNTY introduced HB 5977 as the “Local Government Employer Mandate Prohibition Act”.
This morning, Detroit City Council President Jones called a special session to discuss the bill Monday, Dec. 8. These are clips from the public comments.
The Council passed a resolution in opposition to HB5977. We will post the full resolution as soon as it becomes available.
This bill would prohibit COMMUNITY BENEFIT AGREEMENT ordinances/policies as well as paid sick leave, living wage, prevailing wage, local hiring and contracting, ban the box, and possibly a host of other issues touching upon the employment relationship between a private employer and workers.
This bill is a state violation of local control that has been introduced in direct opposition to Detroiters efforts around a CBA Ordinance that also augments and seams up “Right to Work” legislation passed in 2012.
