Thank You for helping raise $108,000 to win 14 homes!
Thank you all so much!
We are pleased to share Keep Our Homes Detroit
EXCEEDED OUR GOAL of $100,000!
On Thursday, when we closed the donations for the campaign the final number was $108,463! We are pleased to share that we successfully bid on 14 homes!
Over the last 10 days 390 people contributed to help us exceed our goal. Others supported by sharing Keep Our Homes Detroit through their networks and personally reaching out to friends and family for support. We want to sincerely thank you all for taking the time to share and promote this effort. We were heartened and often overwhelmed by the extra efforts many made to get the word out.
On Wednesday, we successfully bid on Shavone’s house! We met Shavone through UCHC and visited with her last week when she shared her story. With your support we have been able to help families stay in their homes. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/dT4Aa0I2w5I Video Credit: Kate Levy
We also want to thank the many organizations, local, national and international that supported with contributions and flooding social media with details about the housing crisis in Detroit. With your support we were able to help shift the narrative that Detroit is a blank slate and share the reality of the mass foreclosure/eviction crisis with the world.
We also cannot express enough gratitude for our partners at United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC) and the Storehouse of Hope. While we were focused on raising funds, the behind the scenes coordination required to participate in the auction, from assessing properties to engaging in often emotional bidding, was intense. This effort would not have been possible without the wisdom, skill, and passion of our partners and their trust in the vision of Keep Our Homes Detroit.
As we move forward we will continue to share updates and more details about the work of Detroit People’s Platform and the growth of the Storehouse of Hope Community Land Trust. To learn more please visit http://detroitpeoplesplatform.org
Also, please continue to share the concurrent #ShowMeTheDeed information to prevent the illegal evictions of those who lost their homes in the auction. New buyers must receive the deed from the county and get a ‘court order to evict’ to start the eviction process. Check the image and link for details and resources. THANK YOU!
