Strategy

“Trolling for Justice” – Trolling is typically defined as making a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response. When we are trolling for justice we are picking a strategic target or online conversation and directly engaging to interrupt or counter the narrative with facts, principles and questions.

  1. Select a target
  2. Tune into livestream or conversation
  3. Using the hashtags and talking points provided or your own, join the conversation or chat Example: If the Mayor says “Jobs” click to tweet or copy and paste a post from “Lack of Opportunity” section below and post it.
  4. While posting responses to the Mayor and on media channels frequently invite people to watch the People’s Response to the SOTC

Please note, these “canned” tweets and posts are designed to support the amplification of our narrative but cannot equal the impact of responding to the Mayor in our own voices. It is possible to personalize “click to tweet” posts before sending them.

The 7.2 mile “Greater Downtown” area is sucking up all of the resources and pouring what they don’t use down the drain. During 2017 it is estimated 18,000+ households will have their water shut off. (27,000 in 2016) The United Nations has recognized this humanitarian/public health crisis.

Between 2009-2015, the City of Detroit assessed 55% to 85% of properties in violation of its state constitution. Based on unconstitutional inflations in assessments, the Wayne County treasurer illegally foreclosed on 28,158 Detroit homes in 2015. cc:@MayorMikeDuggan… Click To Tweet

From 2011 to 2015, the Wayne County treasurer foreclosed upon about 1 in 4 #Detroit properties for unpaid property taxes. The Great Depression was the last time in US history that we experienced this record number of property tax foreclosures. cc:@MayorMikeDuggan… Click To Tweet

According to the Michigan Constitution, no property should be assessed at more than 50% of its market value. But, between 2009-2015, the City of Detroit assessed 55% to 85% of its properties in direct violation of its state constitution. cc:@MayorMikeDuggan #PeoplesSOTC Click To Tweet

Property tax bills are found by multiplying the property tax rate by the assessed value of the property. Due to low personnel, the #Detroit Assessment Office used inaccurate market value property data, resulting in grossly inflated assessments. cc:@MayorMikeDuggan… Click To Tweet

Why do the majority of Detroiters have to put up with bus stops with no shelter or seating while the QLine stations in the 7.2 mile “Greater Downtown/Midtown” area have real-time wait displays, seating, protection from the elements, lighting, and security? All bus riders deserve the same access to shelters with schedule information, seating, and protection from the elements!
