What we demand with our money
The City of Detroit plans to spend almost $400 million in demolition over the next few years to make way for more luxury housing, Downtown development, and industrial plants. Meanwhile, the average Detroiter is need of affordable housing, clean parks, recreation centers, libraries, and good public transportation. The city is also expecting an increase in overall revenue. We have the money!
Help to get OUR community needs funded in next year’s budget, and not the needs of billionaires. Send the city your budget demands at yourbudget@detroitmi.gov. Tell them to we need more public investment in:
- Affordable housing (Affordable Housing Trust Fund and Right to Counsel are budget items that create affordable housing and protect our vulnerable renters)
- Public Transportation (increase city contribution to transit operations that at least meet the budget projections pre-COVID)
- Library (the city should reimburse the library for tax captures that exceed 5% of the library millage)
- Parks and Recreation
