Right to Counsel is a vital support for tenants in majority Black Detroit. The program has struggled without reliable funding needed to reach vulnerable Detroiters who face eviction. Please attend to voice your concerns.
The Potential Impact of a Federal Funding Freeze on Housing in majority Black Detroit
Thousands of Detroit households rely on federally funded benefits and many of these benefits and programs may face reduced funding or elimination. While a federal judge has temporarily blocked the order, many fear the policy may be revised in the future. The loss of these funded program and services will cause great harm to majority Black Detroit.
The National Low Income Housing Coalition https://nlihc.org advises that federal funding cuts will impact the following: rental assistance that aid low-income households, the development and preservation of affordable rental housing, public housing and homes for older adults and people with disabilities, homelessness, improvement in community facilities, including infrastructure and services in low-income communities, investigation and enforcement of fair housing and civil rights laws and other important programs.
